The scene in the van
3:57am. We’re on the road, on I-5 south and California bound. 6 hours ago, we went to a bar in Portland to say our final farewell to our friends who were playing music there. By 30 past midnight we were in our beds. Well, Katie was on her couch, and I and William built our own surprisingly comfy beds out of 10 church chairs each. I unsuccessfully tried to sleep for half an hour. I completed the hour sitting in the dark. Some thoughts about my future kept firing in my head, and I just let them flow. I wanted to talk to somebody. I got on Facebook. Morgan was online and we talked for about an hour. It was a blessing to have talked to her. By 3:15am, we were climbing on Daisy.
William is driving, wearing his sweatpants and beanie while listening to the Lion King sound track. I’m seating on the passenger side trying not to fall asleep. Katie is out sleeping like a little rock in the back seat. This is pretty much how our van normally looks like inside on long drives. Will drives in his Ray Ban sipping Starbuck while I pinch my thigh trying not to fall asleep, and Katie turns into a rock it the back seat.
Will looks sleepy. I better talk to him about cars.
