West Coast Team

of our journey thus far…bruh (terminology “bruh” to be explained in a future post)

Salvation Mountain Bruh!

Us & Leonard in front of his creation! it was quite a stunning sight. Looked like candyland to me!

Scene of the accident through the side mirror. Truck flipped and rolled over the median missing us by maybe 5ft. We were very lucky.

Part of Lindsay’s lunch. Half of a chicken. Can you believe she was a vegetarian for five years..? She loves meat tooooooo much. especially bacon

Chelsea, former West Nomad, showed us around the beautiful San Antonio. Thanks again Chelsea!

Cowgirls in disguise for reals. Oh, and this was before Lindsay followed Patrick into the men’s bathroom. She only noticed after the men looked at her strangely…from the urinals…

It was quite rainy here in Texas because…WE MADE IT RAIN das right

This was her punishment for attempting to scare me… successfully. Locked her out of the van. Das right!

How we really wash up before screenings…public fountains!

This time I didn’t drive with the emergency break on…for two hours…hey but it was fine and at least I know to check it before driving now … :D ?

Patrick and…someone from Walker Texas Ranger. When Pat introduced me to him I responded, “OH!!! REALLY? WOWWWW TAKE A PICTURE!” but I was really thinking “I have no idea who you are sir, I’m sorry :( “

Dallas, Bruh

This picture pretty much depicts our team…haha not really. Look at those somber faces…anyway that’s it from us!

Texas has been really wonderful to us. I think it has to be one of the most self-flagged states in the u.s.

Cheers y’all!

Hannah is tan and fierce. She is no stranger to adventure. She spent her past semester in Jordan riding camels, canoeing in the Nile and snorkeling in the Red Sea. She was born in Seoul, South Korea and at the age of 8 moved to New York. She left her empire state of mind behind for North Carolina to study International Studies at UNC Chapel Hill. There she attended a LiNK screening and decided she couldn’t remain silent any longer. She packed up her bags and headed for the West Coast. Fun fact about Hannah, the ticket to her heart comes in color and is quite sugary, yes, you’ve guessed it, she loves candy. If you bring Sour Straws to a screening you’ll be forever friends.

Fresh off the road from the Spring Tour as a Heartland Nomad, Patrick is back and ready to take on the West. He is great at helping and loving others. If there is anything you need, Patrick is there lending you a hand before you even realize you need the help. When not touring the country you can find him snowshoeing through the Michigan winters, playing lacrosse and water skiing. When Patrick is attendting Central Michigan State he studies cultural anthropology. He loves the people of North Korea and is committed to bringing freedom to North Koreans, he even has the tattoo to prove it. Patrick loves adventures and being greeted by high-fives. So when you see him at screenings, you know what to do.

Danny loves beef jerky, listening to music and singing karaoke. When a game of ninja was is in session you run the other way, for he is the reining Memorial Day Ninja War tournament Champion. Danny was born and raised in North Korea, but now lives in teh beautiful state of California. This summer he is excited to be touring the West and to be able to share his story with everyone he meets. Danny has promised to be a voice for the North Korean people on tour.

Lindsay has fiery red hair and has a line of her own original jokes. As a college student, she takes her life a semester at a time experiening adventures as tehy come her way. Lindsay loves fashion as well as subtle sarcasm and witty banter. She hails from Kansas, loves to dance while driving, making music and is passionate about the North Korean crisis. As a second time nomad, she loves to drive through the great hills and tent out for a night. She hopes to bring the stories of the North Korean people to communities across the country.

We are excited to be coming to you this summer! Be on the look out for our van Daisy as we trek up and down the West.

I think it should be Utahonians… Any way, we are excited to meet you.

Today we pulled into beautiful Utah. Spent the night at a wal-mart in Boise, then made the rest of our drive. This was what we saw…

(Sorry, I got some of the van in the picture… I never claimed to be a photographer.)

We have a busy next few days, but we are very excited to share “Inside North Korea” with Utah Valley University, Utah State University, and University of Utah. If you are near the area and want to see it please come out! You can message us on Facebook for more details.

This week, we went into Canada more specifically Vancouver and Vancouver Island. It was absolutely gorgeous. We love photos, so here are some more!

We also spent some time in Seattle, while we were there we went to a huge tulip festival! Then we saw a bridge called Deception Pass! It was absolutely beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

Then Austin and Myself played some music. BAM!

See you on the Flip Side!

Good Coffee with a Good Cause. →

If you’re anything like me you need at least 2 cups of coffee before you even think about starting your day… LiNK is thrilled to be partnering up with Full Circle Exchange this year and want you to know about a easy way and opportunity to not only get amazing coffee but bring out NK Refugees from hiding!

Here is how it works: You buy a bag of coffee and 30% of the money goes to bringing out a refugee through LiNK…. uh amazing?! So stop buying Starbucks and start buying Full Circle!

Okay, I’m off for another cup of Joe!

Dear West Coasters,

Sorry it has been so long since we have posted. This is our second attempt on this blog, I wrote the whole thing and then closed it… ( Fail) Life on the road can be pretty hectic, so we want to take now to update you on our lives and tell you how everything is going! Betsy ( our van) has been having some mood swings. We want to share some pictures with you of her at her best!

Hopefully you have all been keeping up with us on facebook, however if you have not we wanted to update you on what has been going on.

The past two weeks we have gone from San Francisco to Seattle, we have had some amazing screenings and done some incredible things. We want to give you a highlight of some of them.

1. San Francisco, Mel “Dear Leader” Batie took us boys to the Copeland farewell show. She has a heart of gold that girl. It was incredible, got a chance to network with some artists and see a good show in the process.

2. Stockton CA, the University of Pacific crew treated us to an amazing night, and great hospitality. We miss you all very dearly.

3. Rogue River OR, we stayed with nomad Justin Artoff’s family. We played some intense wii, and had a great time.

4. Eugene OR, we had a tire blow out, luckily Austin “Sherlock” Holmes being the amazing driver he is was able to save the van. Then we met up with Luke Larson ( Future recipient of the Noble Peace Prize) and had a great screening and weekend with the U of O crew.

5. Portland, we were double booked most of the week. This was an incredible week, we saw a bit of where Twilight was filmed. Met some of the most amazing high school teachers and students ever, and had a very good screening at Portland State University. We also had Voodoo donuts. YUM!

6. Tacoma WA, had a screening at Pacific Lutheran University, amazing group asked a lot of really good questions. Then we watched several hours of The LXD, Glee Trailers, and The office with Catherine!

7. Seattle Wa, You are beautiful. Sara Ewalt had an amazing house party/ birthday party for LiNK. Mike at the University of Washington Law stayed up late into the night watching Scare Tactics and Japanese Pranks with us. Tonight we are at Seattle Pacific University.

Hello West Coast,

This is the new West nomad team, we are currently in Tucson, AZ getting ready for a screening at the University of Arizona.

However we wanted you guys to know a little about us.

EXHIBIT A:

Austin

He throws shoes for fun

Austin is the LiNK shoe throwing Champion, this picture shows him action.

Seriously though, Austin is from Chicago and is very good with Ratio’s. He loves to drive especially at night, and loves Kim Chi more than most american foods. You will catch him dominating the merchandise table, and always has the right music for any situation.

Exhibit B: Mel

Mel loves shoulder pads. “I love structures on my shoulder’s.” - Mel Batie

Known for her words of wisdom and love of fur. She has given up her life in Cincinasty, OH to tour with LiNK. Mel is a vegetarian but watch out boys she’ll chew you up she’s a man eater. She cries every time the sun sets, and most every other occasion as well.

Exhibit C: Sean

Sean.  Sean is that guy that no matter how bad your feeling or what went on in your day he knows how to put a smile on your face.  Sean is the one for late night talks, late night laughs and just all around fun.  Seriously, once you meet him you’ll know what I’m talking about.  Oh ya, his hometown is Saudydaisy, TN.  If that doesn’t say enough.  (p.s. ask him to make you sweet tea)

Our serious face…

Hey all, we are back in the office and booking furiously.  I want to say a quick thank you to everyone who attended our screenings and offered your support this past year, we really do appreciate it.  This movement wouldn’t be growing without you.

With that said, there is still a lot of work to be done, a lot of ears that have yet to hear about North Korea, and a lot of refugees still in hiding, waiting for a chance at freedom.  So keep spreading the word by booking a screening!  In addition to that, tell your friends all across the states to contact us and book a screening too.

To set up a screening go to our website and fill out this form:

http://linkglobal.org/take-action/tours/screening_signup.html

We hope to see you soon!

Jeannie* breathed and moved like she was God’s most delicate creature. We all hunched over the bed, whispering about her eyelids and holding our breath each time they opened. Jeannie was two weeks old. As the child of two North Korean refugees, she’s one of the first few North Korean babies to be born in America. Unlike her parents, freedom of speech, religion and movement were all granted to her as a birthright.
